Synopsis: Drama
Setting: It is the year 2012 inside the court room of World Court in a small town of Virginia.
The Trial of Willie Lynch is a story about a british slave owner from the West Indies who is accused of murder & conspiracy based from a letter which he is accused of writing in the year 1712.
8,000,000 Africans and their descendants who were enslaved in the United States from 1555 to 1865.The practice of slavery constituted an “immoral and inhumane deprivation of Africans’ life, liberty, African citizenship rights, cultural heritage” and it further deprived them of the fruits of their own labor. The first slave ship that sailed into Jamestown Harbor in Virginia in 1619 contained a handful of captive Africans, but by the end of the Atlantic slave trade, more than two centuries later, somewhere between 8 million and 12 million Africans had arrived in the NewWorld in chains. 3. Historians estimate that one slave perished for every one who survived capture in the African interior and made it alive to the New World, meaning as many as 12 million perished along the way.
How Would You Find The Defendant?
The specific form of enslavement practiced in our country, which reparations are being asked for, was chattel slavery, and it was one of the worst crimes in all of human history. As documented so powerfully in Gyasi Foluke's book in which he writes about the Black Holocaust and gives A Wholistic Analysis of the African-American Experience 1441-1994, persons of African descent were enslaved for life and had their names, languages, cultural traditions and religious beliefs taken from them. It was against the law for them to marry, or to learn to read, write, or become educated in any way. They could be worked or beaten to death, raped, and forced to breed like cattle, with their children seen as commodities to be sold. The few laws that governed their treatment were very seldom enforced, and even if an enslaved person succeeded in buying himself out of enslavement or escaping to a free state, he was never out of danger of being kidnapped or captured and enslaved again.
